Prompt-a-thon on the topic of Future City

Prompt-a-thon: visions of the future with AI for inclusive urban development

On November 15, 2024, neudeli, the founding workshop of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar, hosted an extraordinary prompt-a-thon on the topic of "Future City" took place. Over the course of nine hours, more than 40 students developed visionary concepts for the cities of the future. The event was supported by the Thuringian Center for Learning Systems and Robotics, the European Digital Innovation Hub Thuringia, the Chair of Transport System Planning and the eTeach Network Thuringia, among others. Our two AI experts provided intensive support during the process and advised the students on prompting technology.

Particularly exciting was the innovative combination of Prompt-a-thon and design thinking. This creative mix of methods enabled the participants to adopt new perspectives and develop their ideas in a structured yet open manner. A central concern of the workshop was to create concepts that focus more strongly on the needs of marginalized social groups in urban development. The students developed visionary approaches that explicitly include people with a migration background, senior citizenswomen with small children and residentsrural regions.

The day ended with a series of pitches in which the participants presented their ideas. The concepts were reviewed by a panel of experts and received valuable feedback that the students can incorporate into their development process.

The event was a complete success and we are impressed by the creative and inclusive approaches that were developed as part of this event. The concept was convincing and we look forward to another edition of the format.
