The Moodle plugin H5P offers the possibility to enrich existing videos (e.g. seminar recordings) with interactive elements without much effort. These include, for example, multiple choice questions, true/false questions or cloze texts. However, only a text or an image can also be displayed. The interactive elements can appear as pop-ups in the video and it is possible for the video to stop automatically and only continue playing once the task has been completed.

Problem

Students arrive at the course with insufficient preparation and/or follow-up work. Students do not manage to sufficiently note down and consolidate all the content presented in the lecture/seminar.

Solutions

By preparing students with interactive videos, students have the opportunity to watch the course again, test their understanding of the concepts and thus engage more intensively with the course material than, for example, by reading texts. The automatic correction of answers also helps students to deepen their understanding of the course content.

General conditions

A course on Moodle is required to use H5P. The "interactive video" can be selected there under "more" - "content storage" - "add". The video can then either be uploaded or integrated using a link. The interactive elements can then be inserted when the video is played. We recommend ticking the box "Pause video when it arrives at start time" in the settings for the interactive elements and selecting "Pop-up", as this will guide students to answer the questions. With the alternative "Button", only a button is displayed, which the students can ignore if necessary.

Consequences

In this way, students have the opportunity to look at content several times, e.g. when preparing for exams
