Pupils learn the basics of scientific work at school. The level of knowledge at the start of their studies is often very different and ideas about the standards of good academic work diverge.

A consensus must therefore be reached on the rules and standards of academic work. In addition to courses, an information sheet is a good idea.
Such a leaflet has been developed for students of urban and regional planning. The information sheet is introduced and presented in the course on academic work. It then serves as a basis for the assessment of written work and is also used as an assessment standard in the further course of study.

The Faculty of Applied Social Sciences has defined standards that apply throughout the faculty. In addition to the rules of good academic work, they also include assessment standards for giving presentations and presentation techniques.

Problem

Solutions

General conditions

The document is introduced as part of a course on academic writing. The information sheet is used in other courses, but especially in self-study when writing academic papers.

Consequences

An information sheet can serve as a reference for the safety of students when writing academic papers. Rules and standards are transparent for teachers and students.
Students in the first semesters of a Bachelor's degree programme in particular will benefit from an information sheet.

Materials

Fact sheet in the area of urban and regional planning, guidelines in the area of social work
