Given the often large amount of material covered in a lecture or other course, students do not always realise the importance of individual topics and find it difficult to identify the key aspects.
A good way to identify the key points of a course is to reflect on the course material at the end of the course. Students are asked to identify and briefly describe the five (3-5) most important outcomes of the course through a joint discussion or a card survey. This process is moderated by the teacher. The results are recorded by the students and the teacher.
