What does a city produce? How can the quality of a city be made perceptible? Students on the Urban and Spatial Planning degree programme should experience spaces in different situations in order to be able to draw conclusions for their development or further development.

In the elective module "Promenadologie - Spaziergangswissenschaften", students are given the opportunity to play with selected locations in the city according to the situation. The situation can be defined in accordance with the actual function of the place or contrary to its original function. Examples of such places include

  • Venice Park
  • Amphitheatre on the Petersberg
  • Car parks
  • Theatre square
  • Fish market.

Following the conception and prototypical realisation of the situation, the event concludes with a tour of all locations. As a rule, the entire faculty takes part.

The aims are, on the one hand, to practise a change of perspective (from planner to walker as a typical place-experiencer) and to acquire key skills.
